Abstract(摘要):
This seminar will review the past and on-going investigations of the interaction of intense, ultrashort-pulse laser (USPL) beams with various materials at the University of Arizona. Our past research focused on the studies of the self-channeling (filamentation) of USPLs with non-trivial beam profiles in gases, the interaction of USPL-generated plasmas with longer (Q-switched) laser pulses and microwaves, “air lasing”, and laser micromachining. The majority of those past works utilized Ti:Sapphire-based USPLs operating in the near infrared. More recent work targets the extension of the USPL research into the short-wave, mid-wave, and long-wave infrared regimes. Our work here is focused on the generation of low-order harmonics in mid-infrared laser filaments in gases and on the construction of a Terawatt-class USPL operating in the long-wave infrared through the nonlinear parametric conversion of more readily available near-infrared laser sources. Over the years, our work involved collaborations with various scientists and institutions including Technical University of Vienna, Max Born Institute Berlin, University of Central Florida, University of Ottawa, Air Force Research Laboratory, SCIOM Shanghai, and Jilin University.
