报告题目:Quasi-free reactions with unstable nuclei

Abstract:

The seminar will foucus on the discussion of (p,2p) and (p,pn) reactions at proton energies in the range of 100 MeV-1 GeV.

Such reactions explore the most sensitive observables in un-polarized reactions with inverse kinematics involving radioactive nuclei. A model based on the eikonal theory is formulated to describe total cross sections and momentum distributions of the recoiled residual nucleus. This model is similar to the one adopted for knockout reactions with heavy ions. It is showed that momentum distributions are sensitive to the angular momentum of the ejected nucleon, so they can be used as an spectroscopic tool, as shown by comparison with recent experimental data although some lingering theoretical problems still remain.
报告人简介:

Professor Carlos A. Bertulani is a Brazilian & American theoretical physicist?and professor at the Department of Physics of the Texas A&M University-commerce. He was formerly a professor at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro from 1980-2000.

Prof. Bertulani’s work on electromagnetic processes in relativistic heavy ion collisions is often taken as the standard reference for gamma-nucleus and gamma-gamma physics in collisions with heavy nuclei. He has predicted the excitation of multiple giant resonances in nuclei, which were verified in experiments at the GSI, Germany. He also proposed the Coulomb dissociation Method (CDM), which is now used in several nuclear accelerators worldwide to extract information on radiative capture processes in stars. Since 1990, Prof. Bertulani’s work is focused on the physics of nuclei far from the beta stability line. He has contributed to pioneering theoretical articles on the nature of halo nuclei, such as 11Li, as far back as in 1986 and has co-authored the first theoretical review in 1993 and the first textbook in 2002 on the study of radioactive nuclei. Prof. Bertulani has published 6 textbooks on nuclear physics and nuclear astrophysics.
